Werum PAS-X and Korber PAS-X are the same platform. Korber acquired Werum in 2019, rebranded the product, and added cloud and analytics capabilities without replacing the core validated MES architecture.
Definition
Werum IT Solutions was the independent German software company that developed PAS-X, the dominant pharmaceutical MES platform. In 2019, Korber Technologies acquired Werum and rebranded the product suite under the Korber name. The underlying PAS-X platform retained its architecture and validation status, but Korber added cloud connectivity, analytics, and integration with other Korber supply chain technologies to create a broader pharma operations offering.
What this means when you're hiring
This distinction matters in recruitment because candidates and clients sometimes treat Werum and Korber as different platforms when they're not. A candidate with five years of Werum PAS-X experience is a Korber PAS-X practitioner. When I screen CVs, I look for both naming conventions because candidates who qualified before 2019 will often still write Werum. The rebrand also created an opportunity: clients exploring Korber's broader suite need people who understand both the legacy PAS-X depth and the newer Korber ecosystem components.
Where candidates get this wrong
The most common misconception is that the Korber acquisition fundamentally changed PAS-X. It didn't. The validated core that pharma manufacturers rely on is the same product Werum built. Korber's additions are additive, not architectural replacements. The second misconception is that candidates need to have worked at a post-2019 site to claim Korber experience. Any candidate who has worked on PAS-X in any configuration has Korber-relevant skills.
How expectations change by level
For junior roles, the Werum-Korber distinction is largely irrelevant. For senior and principal-level hires, I expect candidates to understand the Korber product roadmap, specifically how the cloud-connected suite is evolving and where it's heading relative to pharma industry requirements. The best senior candidates I've placed have a view on when Korber's broader suite adds value versus when standalone PAS-X is still the right answer. That kind of platform judgement is what separates a practitioner from a principal.
